Frequently Asked Questions

How Ajwa works

How is Ajwa different from other dating apps?

Ajwa is built around intentional connection rather than swiping. Every profile answers three open-ended questions so you can get a real sense of who someone is before you ever reach out. Photos are private by default — they're only visible once you've established a mutual connection — so people connect on personality first.

There are no algorithms, paid boosts, or artificial ranking factors. The timeline shows users ordered by who was most recently active, and filters are based on the mutual preferences you and each other user have set.

Who appears in my timeline?

The timeline shows users ordered by most recently active first. Profiles are filtered bidirectionally — you only see someone if your gender, religion, and age preferences are mutually compatible. Your own profile never appears in your timeline.

Users who have blocked you, or whom you have blocked, are not shown. Hidden profiles (users who have paused their account) are also excluded.

How do interest requests work?

An interest request is how you let someone know you'd like to connect. You can send one to any user on the platform. They can accept, reject, or ignore it — and you can cancel a request you've sent at any time before it's accepted.

Once both people have accepted each other's request, you have a mutual connection and can exchange messages and view each other's photos.

Can I message anyone on the platform?

Yes — you can message any user directly without needing a prior connection. If you want to take things further, send an interest request. Once it's accepted, you unlock each other's photos.

Is Ajwa free?

Yes — Ajwa is completely free to use. There are no subscription fees, no paywalled matches, and no credits required to send messages or interest requests.

We may introduce optional premium features in the future, but the core experience of browsing, connecting, and messaging will always remain free.

Who can see my profile?

Your profile (name, bio, and keywords) is visible to all users whose preferences match yours. Your photos are private — only users you have mutually connected with can see them. Your email address is never visible to other users.

Photos & privacy

Who can see my photos?

Your photos are visible to users you've sent an interest request to, or users whose interest request you've accepted. They are never visible to the general public or to someone you have had no interaction with.

Why are photos private by default?

We believe connections should form on the basis of genuine interest and personality, not appearance alone. Keeping photos private until a mutual connection is established encourages more thoughtful interactions and gives you control over who sees your images.

How many photos can I upload?

You can upload up to 3 photos. You can also set one as your avatar — a cropped profile circle that appears on your card in the timeline and in conversations. Your avatar is visible before a connection is made; your full photos are not.

How do I set my avatar?

Go to Edit Profile, upload a photo, then tap the star icon on the photo you want to use as your avatar. You'll be able to zoom and reposition the crop. Your avatar circle is shown in the timeline and in any conversation, even before a mutual connection is established.

Safety & reporting

How do I report a user?

Tap the flag icon on any user's profile. You can submit a report with a brief description of the issue. All reports are reviewed personally by the Ajwa team within 24 hours.

You can also report using the in-app feedback form under Settings → Help & Support, or email us directly at [email protected].

How do I block someone?

Tap the block option on any user's profile. A blocked user can no longer view your profile, send you interest requests, or contact you in any way. The block is immediate and silent — they are not notified.

What happens after I report someone?

We review every report personally and aim to respond within 24 hours. If a violation is confirmed, the account is suspended or permanently removed. To protect all parties involved, we don't share the specific action taken.

For serious violations — fraud, threats, explicit photos, or anything involving a minor — accounts are permanently removed without warning.

What gets someone permanently banned?

The following result in immediate permanent removal with no appeal:

  • Uploading photos containing nudity or sexual content
  • Any content involving minors
  • Threats of violence or harassment
  • Financial fraud or romance scamming
  • Impersonation or catfishing

Other violations (vulgarity, spam, repeated unwanted contact) result in suspension on a first offence and permanent removal on repeat offences.

I've been contacted by someone asking for money. What should I do?

Do not send money to anyone you have not met in person. Romance scams are common on all online platforms. If someone asks for money, gift cards, crypto, or wire transfers — regardless of how convincing their story is — block and report them immediately.

You can also report romance scams to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.

Account

How do I delete my account?

Go to Settings → Delete Account. Deletion is permanent and immediate — your profile, photos, messages, and connections are all removed from our systems. There is no waiting period and no way to recover a deleted account.

Can I hide my profile without deleting it?

Yes. Go to Settings and toggle "Take a Break". Your profile will be hidden from the timeline and search results immediately. Your data, connections, and messages are preserved. You can re-enable your profile at any time.

How do I reset my password?

On the login screen, tap "Forgot password" and enter your email address. We'll send you a reset link valid for one hour. If you're already logged in, you can change your password under Settings → Change Password.

Why do I need to verify my email?

Email verification confirms that you own the address you registered with. It also gives us a way to send you a password reset link if you ever lose access to your account. Without a verified email, you won't be able to log in.

If you didn't receive the verification email, check your spam folder or use the "Resend verification email" option on the login screen.

Feedback & bugs

How do I report a bug?

Use the in-app feedback form under Settings → Help & Support and select "Bug report". Include as much detail as you can — what you were doing, what you expected to happen, and what happened instead. Screenshots are welcome.

You can also email [email protected] directly.

How do I suggest a feature?

Go to Settings → Help & Support and select "Feature request". We read every submission and use them to shape the roadmap. While we can't commit to building every idea, your feedback genuinely influences what we work on next.

How long does it take to get a response?

We aim to respond to all emails and reports within 24 hours. Safety reports (harassment, explicit content, fraud) are treated as urgent and reviewed first.
